Back in the early 1900’s, a pastor discovered one Sunday morning that the roads were blocked because of a snow storm, and the only way he could reach the church, was to ice skate on the river. When he finally arrived, the elders of the church were astonished, mouths hanging open wide, could not believe the pastor had skated on the Sabbath. After service they had a meeting, putting the pastor on the hot seat. The pastor explained that it was either skate or miss church. Finally one elder asked; Well did you enjoy it? The pastor said not particularly, so they decided it was ok. That’s what religion does, it determines what is acceptable and what is not. If your too happy, you must be doing it wrong. I told my wife, something just isn’t right, the more I study scripture, and Jesus, the more I feel like I was lied to and manipulated. Friends I grew up with in church and leaders I knew were leaving the faith all the time. Religion always told me narrow is the way that leads to Heaven, broad is the way that leads to destruction, but the problem was these were good people. They weren’t being over taken by some great sin, but were just hurt by people. I had to take a real look and see what am I holding on to. The people I know are sincere, but sincerely wrong.
